Prayers for Those Affected By Florida School Shooting
Our hearts are heavy today as we process the news of the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. We pray for the people affected by this tragedy and ask God to open our hearts to opportunities to pursue peace in our communities.
Ash Wednesday is the start of the Lenten season and offers a sacred and spacious place for humility and confession. When we think of confession, we might find ourselves feeling resistance! This is not a time to feel bad about ourselves or air all our dirty laundry. It is a time to get real about what feels broken in us, in our relationships, in our world and how God’s invitation of repentance and restoration leads us all to greater wholeness.
I invite you to consider Community of Christ’s definition of sin:
"God created us to be agents of love and goodness. Yet we misuse our agency individually and collectively. We take the gifts of creation and of self and turn them against God’s purposes with tragic results. Sin is the universal condition of separation and alienation from God and one another. We are in need of divine grace that alone reconciles us with God and one another." --www.CofChrist.org/basic-beliefs
This definition is about living more faithfully in all the relationships that make up our lives—with God, ourselves, others, and creation. The journey of Lent is about the return, reconciliation, and restoration to who we have always been invited to become…together. This is a time to take inventory of what may be misplaced or disordered in our lives so we may listen more deeply to the call of God and follow God more faithfully.
Our text from Matthew 6, invites us to greater humility on our walk with Christ, reminding us that where our heart is, our treasure will also be. This is the night for asking:
• Where is your heart?
• What is the treasure of this discipleship life?

See the Announcement below:
In the spirit of a new start, Grady and I put up a Charlie Brown Christmas tree in the fellowship hall. It’s pretty bare, needs a lot of work to make it look nice, just like the situation we are in with the building.
You Can Help Us Reach Our Year-End Worldwide Mission Tithes Goal
We greet you in the name of Jesus Christ and give thanks for your willingness to make Christ’s mission your mission.
As the USA Team of Apostles, we continue to engage in significant prayer, thought, and discussion on how to support you in mission. The recent World Church budget and staff reduction process gave us an opportunity to again consider the critical needs of the church in the United States. The discussion also helped us focus on mission opportunities, now and into the future.
From those discussions emerged a plan to redeploy staff and set aside funds for new missional expressions that “birth, nurture, and multiply communities of disciples and seekers engaged in spiritual formation and compassionate ministry in action.” (From President Steve Veazey’s webcast: “A Time to Act!”
These ministers have and will be redeployed in the USA Mission Field:
Keith McMillan: Latter-day Seeker support in Arizona, beginning January 2018, continuing as president of Seventy Quorum No. 4
Larry McGuire: Congregational leadership and innovation (LCM), beginning January 2018, continuing as president of Seventy Quorum Nos. 3 and 10
David Anderson: Priesthood training, formation, and support, beginning July 2018, continuing as president of the High Priest Quorum
Rob Borkowski: In a new position to support those calling International Headquarters, beginning March 2018
Carrie Welch: Field support minister for the Southeast Mission Field, beginning December 2017
After USA Leadership Team meetings in February, we will send you additional information about the new missional expressions funds and how these ministers will support the church in the United States. During this transition time, we ask for your prayerful support of these ministers.
Thank you again for your faithful service. During this Advent season of expectant waiting and celebration of Jesus’ birth, may we all remember to share the Living Christ with others.
In God’s grace and love,
Linda L. Booth
If you haven't already visited our Social Media pages today, (Tuesday, Nov. 28) then you might not know... Today is #GivingTuesay - an international day of giving back.
This can be done in a variety of ways, service projects, volunteer time, or even through generous donations.
Today, anonymous donors are matching World Wide Mission Tithes up to $100,000.00 (USD). What this means is that if you contribute to Community of Christ online (http://cofchrist.org/give), then all (or a portion) of your donation may be matched!
