I wanted to share a line-by-line update with how we (as a Mission Center) are working with these resources.
The Website Toolkit has instructions for building a congregational website, including a sample (http://CofChristsample.weebly.com).
Our website reflects many of the recommendations in the listing (and we've got some tabs that apply specifically to us). We'll be reviewing these documents further to see if there is any additional work that will need to be done to realign our page to match.
Social Media Images
Use Social Media Profile Images to reflect Community of Christ’s visual standards. Congregations and mission centers also are welcome to use cover images if needed.
Since we've opted to take a little different approach to social media than the Facebook 101 Best Practices (more about that in the next line); we have also opted to make our profile photos more unique to our needs. We've maintained a uniform appearance; but we've also made all the cover images our congregation photos... If you have better photos then email me!
Facebook 101 Best Practices
Facebook 101 Best Practices outlines basic information, including how to create a Facebook page and group.
This document was designed for individual congregations; however, as a mission center team, we've opted to set up Facebook Locations. This means that the Mission Center has a central page; then all of our individual congregations are branched off of it. This gives the Mission Center some control (in case a congregation is not using their page); or if there is a sudden change in pastor, or if congregations want to designate others to run their social media pages. Google My Business
Google My Business Account explains how to edit congregation information on Google.
Turns out, we registered for something called "bulk" registration. This means we've now registered all the local pages from the Mission Center level and all your congregations are now verified. If you change service times, have special events, etc. Please let us know and / or we can also give someone access to your Google Business Profile. (email me with questions).
Social MEdia Guidelines
Social Media Guidelines defines how mission centers and congregations should respond to negative comments and handle copyright rules and privacy concerns.
We've got this covered as well. The World Church has published guidelines; but, we'll also be putting out additional guidelines from the mission center for the use of social media in ministry; specifically if you are going to represent your congregation on social media platforms. Indianapolis congregation has also developed a complementary level more specific to congregational level ministry.
